Frequently Asked Questions

What time is check-in/out?

Check-in is between 3-6pm. We will require notice of your ETA beforehand. Later check-ins possible with prior arrangement. Check-out is by 11am.

 

What should we bring for staying in a tipi?

Other than spare clothes, towels, food & drink, the answer is very little!

Do we need to bring drinking water?

There is a fresh water tap on site. We provide a water dispenser per tipi.

What do we sleep on?

Sofa futons (which extend into beds), blankets, bed linen, pillows & duvets (or sleeping bags if preferred - please request upon booking) are all provided.

What do we bbq/cook on?

Each group is given a large outdoor firepit which has removable grills for cooking over. One small gas stove per tipi is also provided.

Do you provide firewood?

You will receive a log basket which contains 1 bag of extra kiln-dried firewood per tipi, per night, as well as kindling, charcoal, matches & flamers. Extra bags are available to buy onsite before 6pm at £5/bag. The indoor fires must run on kiln-dried firewood only.

What kitchenware is provided?

Plates, bowls, cutlery, mugs, a kettle, tea/coffee/sugar, utensils, pots/pans, serving dishes, chopping boards, a mixing bowl, colander and grater are provided. 

Where do we wash up?

There is a washing up station with a large stainless steel sink. We supply each group with a washing up bowl, washing up liquid, a sponge, cloth, scourer & tea-towels.

Can I take a hot shower?

Yes, there is a shower block onsite. We allocate cubicles to groups. We do not provide towels or shower gel. 

What is the toilet situation?

There is a toilet block onsite, cleaned at least once a day. We allocate cubicles to groups.

Can I bring my dog?

Well behaved dogs are welcome at £10 per dog, per stay. 

Can anyone go canoeing/kayaking?

Yes. Provided you can swim 50m you can have a go. 

Is there a minimum age?

Yes. For canoeing, the minimum age is 4 years. There must be a ratio of 1 adult to 1 child for any child under 10 years. There can be 1 adult to 2 children 10+ years. 

What if the river is too high?

If following heavy rains the river reaches an unsafe level, excursions will be cancelled & a refund issued. 

Can anyone paddle the rapids?

Only once you have completed a half day of paddling. If in doubt, boats can be rafted together to increase stability. Helmets are provided. 

Is there a weight limit for the canoes?

There is a size/weight limit for fitting of buoyancy aids & safe paddling. The personal limit is 20 stone, chest size 50". The maximum weight for all people in one boat is 40 stone. 

What if we arrive slightly late for our activity slot?

Please arrive on time - arriving late will affect the day's schedule & mean delays for those who have arrived on time and others booked in over the rest of the day. We may need to cut your trip short, and you may even miss out altogether. 

Is there a minimum group size for activities?

For self-guided canoeing & kayaking trips there is no minimum group size. Should you require a guide, a minimum group size of 8 persons is required (unless willing to pay an instructor fee). For climbing & abseiling, SUP and bushcraft the minimum group size is 6 persons. For gorge scrambling and barrel rafting the minimum group size is 8. 

How do we get back to our tipi(s) after our activities? 

Any necessary transport is included at no extra cost. You must catch the shuttle at the specified time. 

Can we hire the entire site?

Yes! Please contact us to discuss. Should you require, we can arrange a professional catering service for large parties. Please note we are not a wedding (or events) venue.

 

Do you accept stag/hen groups?

Yes. Generally our guests are stag/hens/friends. The tipis are spaced out to ensure minimal disturbance from other groups. Please let us know your group dynamic upon booking so that we can allocate you the most suitable spot in the field.

Do you accept school / Duke of Edinburgh visits?

On weekdays, yes! Please contact us to discuss prices & availability.

Can we swim in the river?

No. Our stretch of river is extremely fast flowing.

Are the tipis rainproof? 

Yes. We have 'top hats' which we sit on top of the tipi poles when rain is forecast. 

Are Tipi Adventure staff available during my stay?

We are never far away but prefer to leave you in peace for the duration of your stay. We are always at the end of the phone. 

Is there Wi-Fi?

No - consider this a digital detox!

Is there electricity?

In the Shepherds Hut, yes. In the tipis, no, but we have phone charging lockers with USB ports available (£5 per locker for the duration of your stay).

Can I park my car next to my tipi?

No. We do not permit any vehicles in the tipi field. The car park is a very short walking distance from the tipis and we provide trollies to help with luggage.

What is the procedure for damages during our stay?

Guests will be charged for any damages caused to the tipis/facilities. Please see our Terms & Conditions for more info.
